The Sri Lanka Football (SLF) conducted an online meeting via Zoom to discuss the proposals submitted by the ten participating clubs to launch the inaugural “Super League” soccer tournament scheduled to kick off at the end of January.
Eight out of the ten clubs showed their willingness and the remaining two clubs which were under isolation due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, for almost over 70 days, will take some time to decide on their plight in participating in this tourney. They have made a plea to the SLF stating that they were unable to resume practices as a unit and revealed grievances to the governing body. Subsequently, these two teams are scheduled to meet SLF officials in a few more days to discuss how they could overcome these issues. After this meeting, the SLF is to conduct an internal meeting to finalise tournament details according to health regulations.
Nevertheless, SLF is fully focused and gearing up to resume football in the country by launching this professional tournament which is of great importance if they are to raise the standard of the game to the next level. - (AN)
