Josephian Miranga excellent all-round display

Right hand batsman and right arm leg spinner Miranga Wickramage of St. Joseph’s College Colombo turned in a superb all-round performance in the 2019/20 season of the Under 19 division One Inter Schools Cricket (Two day) tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.

He scored 439 runs with a century and two fifties and claimed 58 wickets with 3 five wicket hauls in the under 19 schools Cricket season of 2019/20 under the senior coach Niroshan Bandarathilake. He scored 126 runs against St. Anne’s College Kurunegala in the pre-quarter final. His best bowling performance was 7 wickets for 27 runs against Wesley College Colombo. St. Joseph’s College Colombo advanced to the quarter final.

Miranga Wickramage was born on 29th May 2001 in Colombo. He was admitted to Agamethi Vidyalaya Kalalgoda in 2006. He completed his primary education from this school. He joined Dharmapala College Kottawa in 2011 and started his Cricket career at the college under coach Duminda Gunasekara in 2012. He represented the school under 13 team in 2013. He scored 193 runs with two fifties and claimed 19 wickets in his first season. He scored 296 runs with three fifties and claimed 25 wickets as skipper in 2014.

He scored 155 runs with a fifty and claimed 11 wickets in the under15 school Cricket season in 2015. He claimed 30 wickets in the under15 MCA tournament in 2015 and he was adjudged best bowler. He scored 150 runs with 2 fifties and claimed 15 wickets in the under15 Nelson Mendis trophy tournament in 2016. He was adjudged best all rounder of the same tournament.

He scored 405 runs with 3 fifties and claimed 33 wickets in the under 15 school cricket season in 2016. He led the Colombo District Central team and Western province Central under 15 teams in the Prima Champions Trophy inter district and inter provincial tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket in 2016.

He joined St. Joseph’s College in 2017.and scored 102 runs and claimed 18 wickets in the under 17 inter schools Cricket season in 2017 under the senior coach Roger Wijesooriya. His best bowling performance was 4 wickets for21 runs against Wesley College Colombo.

He represented champion St. Joseph’s College in the under 17 school cricket season in 2018. He scored 249 runs with a fifty and claimed 15 wickets.

Miranga represented the St. Joseph’s college under 19 team, who emerged Champions of the tournament as a fresher in the season of 2017/2018. He scored 175 runs and claimed 37 wickets. His best bowling performance was 7 wickets for 19 against Ananda College Colombo.

He scored 232 runs with 2 fifties and claimed 25 wickets with 2 five wicket hauls in the under 19 schools Cricket season in 2018/19. St. Joseph's College Colombo emerged champions of the tournament.

Mirnaga Wickramage represented Tamil Union C & AC in the last SLC Major 23 inter club tournament in 2020. He took 7 wickets in four matches.
