Joseph Roshita has clinched six national carrom titles

29 year old Joseph Roshita of Sri Lanka Navy has the rare honour of clinching six National Women’s Carrom titles in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015,2016 and 2018.

Joseph Roshita was born on 29th May 1991 in Colombo 10. She lived in Siyambala Gaha Watta, Sangharaja Mawatha, Colombo 10. Roshita started playing Carrom during her childhood. She attended All Saints Convent Borella in 1997. She started to play Carrom from the lowest level in the Inter house meet in 2006 for “Lima house”. She won second place in the individual event Lasantha Ranatunge was the first Carrom coach at her school

Roshita was selected to the school Carrom team in under 19 age level in 2006. They participated in the Western Province Schools Carrom tournament for the first time. They beat Anula Vidyalaya Nugegoda, a top team in Carrom in Western province in that era. Roshita was the youngest member in the first Carrom team of the school. All Saints Convent qualified to the All Island Schools tournament and lost against Sumana Balika Vidyalaya Ratnapura in 2006.

All Saints Convent emerged All Island School Carrom champions for the first time in the school’s history under the captaincy of Joseph Roshita in 2008.

She was National ranking no. 11 in 2008. She improved her ranking year by year. She represented the National Women’s team in the 13th SAG Carrom tournament and they won the Silver medal in 2009.

Roshita won the 42nd Senior National Women’s Championship for the first time in 2010. She beat Chalani Lakmali in the final. She emerged under 19 singles champion in the 9th Junior National Carrom championship in the same year. She was runner up in the 11th President Cup Carrom Championship Singles event.

Roshita emerged singles Champion in the 44th Senior National Carrom Championship and Under 21 Champion In the 10th Junior National Carrom Championship in 2012. She was champion in the Grand Slam Carrom Championship. She was champion singles and Doubles in 14th President Cup Carrom Championship in 2012.

She emerged single and double champion in the 26th Federation Cup Carrom Championship and single and doubles champion in the 11th Rangers Open Carrom Championship in 2013. She was single and doubles champion in the 45th Senior National Carrom Championship in 2013. She was placed third in the Champion of Champion’s International Carrom Tournament at India in 2013. Roshita represented Sri Lanka Women’s team who finished runners- up in the 7th SAARC Carrom Championship and 5th Asian Carrom Championship in India in 2013.

Roshita emerged singles and doubles champion in the 46th Women’s Senior National Carrom Championship and emerged champion in the 15th Grand Slam Carrom Championship in 2014. She emerged doubles champion and single runner up in the 16th President Cup Carrom Championship and she led the Sri Lanka Navy who emerged champions in the 8th Defence Service Games in 2014. She emerged champion of the singles and doubles in the 12th Rangers Open Carrom Championship and won two titles in the singles and doubles in the 27th Federation Cup Carrom Championship in 2014.

Roshita emerged champion in singles and doubles in the 47th Senior National Carrom Championship, single champion in the 16th Grand Slam Carrom Championship in 2015. She emerged single and doubles champion in the 16th President Cup Carrom Championship and won two titles singles and doubles in the 28th Federation Cup Carrom Championship in 2015.

Roshita emerged singles and doubles champion in the 27th National Youth Sports Festival and she represented Sri Lanka Women’s team who were runner up in doubles and team event in the 6th ICF Cup Carrom Championship at India in 2015.

Roshita emerged singles champion and doubles runners up in the 48th Senior National Carrom Championship and single runners up in the 16th Grand Slam Carrom Championship in 2016. She was runner up doubles and placed third in singles in the 16th President Cup Carrom Championship and doubles champion, team champion and single runner up (Western Province) in the XLII National Sport Festival in 2016. She represented the National Womens’ team which was runners up of the team event, placed third in doubles and was placed fifth in singles in the 7th World Carrom Championship at United Kingdom in 2016.

She emerged singles champion in the 17th Grand Slam Carrom Championship, she was runner up doubles and placed 3rd in singles at the 49th Senior National Carrom Championship in 2017. She was runner up in 18th Grand Slam Carrom Championship. She emerged single champion for the sixth time in the 50th Senior National Carrom Championship in 2018. She was placed third in doubles in the same tournament.

She represented Sri Lanka Women’s who were runners up of the team event, they were placed third in doubles and sixth in singles in the 5th World Cup Carrom Championship at Korea in 2018. She was ranked fifth in the World.Roshita was the singles and doubles champion in Presidents Cup in 2019 and runner up in the singles in 19 th Grand Slam Championship. (Y.K.)
