Athlete and ruggerite Akila pride of Dehiowita National School

Ruggerite and Athlete Akila Muthumalka brought honour and fame to his school Dehiowita National School. He was admitted to the Grade One of Atalugama Primary School in 2008 when A. G. Samaradasa was at the helm of the school.

At the Inter House Athletic Meet in 2011 he came first in 75 and 100 metre events and in the Divisional Meet he was placed second in the under 12 age group and he came first in High Jump and 100 metres and in the following year too in the Divisional Meet he became first in his events and in the Zonal meet he was placed third in both events and in the Provincial meet too he came third

He shifted to the senior school of Dehiowita National School in 2013 and in the Inter House Sports Meet participating in the under 12 age group he won the 100 and 100x4 Relay Event and in High Jump Event in the Divisional Meet he ended up second

In 2015 in the School Sports Meet he won Long Jump and 100 metres and at the Divisional he was second and in 2015 in the Schools Sports Meet he won the Long Jump and 100 metres and at the Divisional Meet he was second and in the under 14 age group in 2016 at Schools Sports Meet he was placed second in his events and at the Divisional Meet he came second and his team won the 100x4 Relay Event. In 2017 too he won places in the Divisional meet and they won in 100x4 event.

In 2018 in the under 16 he came first in 100, 200 and 800 at the Divisional Meet he also won the Putt Shot and the Discuss Throw at the Inter School Meet. His coach and Master in Charge is Ranaweera.

He commenced rugger under Munasinghe and Priyantha and in 2014 in his first year itself he was appointed as the Vice Captain and he played as a centre in the All Island under 13 tournament and as an under 12 player he participated in the All Island Tournament in 2016.Their under 14 team were the All Island Runners Up in Bowl Trophy and in 2019 they were the under 16 Bowl Trophy Runner Up and he was the Vice Captain of the team.

Their Principal Yohan Gamage, Nalaka Perera, Mrs. Malani Perera and Patricia Fernando were very keen to promote the game in the school.
