St. Anne’s Kurunegala skipper Kavindu excels with bat

Kavindu Ranasinghe left hand batsman, right arm leg-spinner and skipper of St. Anne’s College Kurunegala showed batting performance in the last season of the Under 19 Division One inter Schools Cricket (Two day) tournament.

Kavindu Ranasinghe born in 19th February 2001 at Weennapuwa. He attended Wen/Dikwala Maha Vidyalaya in 2006. He joined St. Anne’s College Kurunegala in Grade three in 2008. He started his cricket career under coach Mr.Nishantha.

He represented the school under 13 cricket team in three seasons from 2012 to 2014 as left hand batsman and right arm leg spinner. He scored over 200 runs with a fifty and he took 18 wickets in his first season of under 13 division One tournament in 2012. Kavindu scored 198 runs with a century and claimed 22 wickets in the under 13 season of 2013. He made a century against Ibbagamuwa Central College. He scored 254 runs with a century and captured 23 wickets with a five wicket haul in the under 13 season in 2014. He made 114 runs against Wickramashila National School Giriulla under the guidance of Mr. Bandara, the junior coach of the school.

Kavindu scored 168 runs and claimed 18 wickets in the under 15 division One tournament in 2015. He represented the Kurunegala district under 15 team and North Western province team in the Prima Champions trophy under 15 inter district and inter provincial tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket in the same year. 14-year-old Kavindu represented the college first XI team as a fresher in the under 19 division Two tournament in 2015/16. He scored 212 runs and claimed 28 wickets in 8 matches in the same season.

Kavindu scored 202 runs with a half century and claimed 16 wickets in the under 15 division One tournament in 2016. He represented the Kurunegala district under 15 team and North Western province team in the Prima Champions trophy under 15 inter district and inter provincial tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket in the same year. He represented Sri Lanka under 16 team against England under 16 teams in 2016. He scored over 400 runs with three fifties and he claimed 42 wickets in the first XI season in 2016/2017.

He scored 162 runs and claimed 20 wickets in the under 17 division One tournament in 2017. He scored 198 runs with a half century and claimed 18 wickets in the under 17 division One tournament in 2018. He selected Sri Lanka under 19 spin squad. He scored 612 runs with 4 fifties and he claimed 39 wickets in the first XI season in 2017/2018. St. Anne’s College Kurunegala was runner up in the division Two tournament as they promoted to division One from the season 2018/19. Kavindu represented the under 19 North Western province team in the inter provincial under 19 tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket in 2018.

He scored 726 runs with five half centuries and claimed 29 wickets in the under 19 division One tournament in 2018/19. His best batting performance being unbeaten 88 runs against St. Benedict’s College Kotahena.

He scored 904 runs with a century and six half centuries. He scored 112 runs against Dharmaraja College Kandy. Kavindu made fifties against Maris Stella Negombo (59), De Mazenod Kandana (75), Moratu Vidyalaya (60 & 64), Dharmapala Pannipitiya (62) and Dharmashoka Ambalangoda (79) in this season.
