Sri Lanka Army athletes were in peak form on the fourth day of the Sri Lanka National Athletic Championships winning six events worked off yesterday at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

Soldiers made a clean sweep in the Men’s Hammer Throw when they bagged all three top positions with M. R. Sisira Kumara heaving the hammer to a distance of 50.73 meters to be the winner. He was followed by his team mates H. M. A. Sanjaya Bandara (49.59m) and K.K.D.M. Dharmasena (44.51m).

It was a different story in the same event for women with Air woman H. A. A. Lakshika who heaved the hammer 43.02 meters to outclass SL Army’s A. W. A. S. M. Amarasinghe (42.25 meters) and L.B. Weranga Thisarani of SL University (42.25 meters).

H. M. N. Nandasena of Army Women’s Corps clocked a timing of 35: 21.11 Minutes to outclass Air women K. M. Malinda and A. N. L. Ariyadasa to grab the 10,000 meter women’s title. Nandasena was well of other runners as she was ahead by more than a minute.

The women’s 1500 meter event was the next event that went away from soldiers when Sri Lanka Navy's G. T. A. Abeyratne with a time of 4:17.58 Minutes won the race in a close battle with Army’s U. K. N. Ratnayake (4:21.28 Minutes) and W. K. L. A. N. Nimali of Air Force (4:28.13 Minutes). On the fourth day no records were established or no records were equaled showing that the pandemic situation has not allowed the most needed training for our athletes.
