S.R.D.M. Shermila Seneviratne, a Grade.11 student of Girls High School, Kandy is an outstanding Athlete in Field events as well as track events who had her primary education at Pujapitiya Central School, and later on entered Girls High School, Kandy on a scholarship for her secondary education.
She started her Athletic Career in track events on the instructions of her Athletic Coach, Nanda Dolapihilla and at the start she won both 75 & 80 Metres at the District and Provincial Athletic Meets. In the following year also she won the 80 and100M. races at both the District and Provincial meets.
Shermila maintained her outstanding Athletic talent when she won the 100 metres, 200 and Long Jump events at the District and Provincial Athletic Meets for the third successive year. In the year 2018 she secured fourth place at the John Tarbat Athletic Meet in the 200 Metres race.
She showed her athletic prowess at the Junior John Tarbat Athletic Meet in the year 2019 and secured the first place in Triple Jump clearing a distance of 11.35 Metres and 2nd in Long Jump clearing a distance of 5.35 Metres. In the same year she secured the third place in the Long Jump events clearing a distance of 5.44 Metres. at the Junior A.A Meet.
Shermila is 5 ft.8 inches tall and strongly built like the Olympic Athlete Susanthika Jayasinghe. As an Up-and-coming Athlete, if she receives the proper attention of the relevant authorities she will definitely make the grade to become an International level Woman Athlete.
Her intention is to concentrate more on field events than track events.
Shermila wants to improve her studies and reach greater heights in Athletics and she is thankful to her Athletic Coach, Nanda Dolapihilla and the Principal of Pujapitiya Central S. Thalagoda, Principal of Girls High School, Malkanthi Abeygunasekera and the POG Thanuja Gunasinghe.
