Dhananjaya out for two weeks

Sri Lankan batsman Dhananjaya de Silva is shouldered by the team medical staff to the pavilion soon after he aggravated a thigh strain while batting in the first test match against South Africa at Super Sports Park, Centurion Saturday.

Sri Lankan Batsman Dhananjaya de Silva will be out for two weeks which means he will miss the remaining South African tour, after he aggravated a thigh strain while batting on the first day of the first test match played for ‘Betway Test Series’ on the Boxing Day at the Super Sport Park, Centurion.

When he was in prime form middling the ball well, Dhananjaya de Silva (79) pushed the ball of Lutho Sipamla for a quick single where he aggravated this injury later was stretchered off the field.

After a scan report, the doctors advised him to rest for at least two weeks which they call a ‘Second staged Strain’, which is not so serious.

Dhananjaya was associated in a 131-run alliance with Dinesh Chandimal(41 n.o.) sailing smoothly when this unfortunate incident occurred.

The 106 ball innings of Dhananjaya comprised eleven well compiled boundaries and a towering six hoisted off Keshav Maharaj’s bowling, on a wicket which had uneven bounce. He is the second player to be sidelined due to injury after veteran seamer Suranga Lakmal pulled out due a hamstring injury last Wednesday.

The Sri Lankan team Manager, Asantha de Mel speaking to Daily News stated that “It was very unfortunate to miss Dhananjaya when he was in prime form middling the ball well. Any way we can’t prevent things beyond our control. He will be out for at least two weeks including the remainder of this tour. The team medical staff will work on his injury from now to make him fit for the upcoming home test series against England.”

“Well we are happy so far with the performance of the boys. Another 40 to 50 runs will be handy for us to give our rivals a challenging total for which our bowlers will have to bowl accurate line and length to restrict them for a low score.” saidAsantha de Mel. (AN)
