The 32nd National Youth Sports Festival will be held next March and for the first time it will be conducted as a five day mega event said president of the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) Theshara Jayasinghe.
We are going to make a new concept for this National Youth Sports Festival and it will be a five day event (earlier only three days ) while this time we are planning to give more prize money for the winners as well as increase the facilities for the participants added NYSC president. So far all participants get accommodation from the schools and the three day event extended to five day with additional two days for the special feature activities for them and they can really enjoy through out the event with this extra two days added NYSC president.
The schedule events of the first round at the 32nd National Youth Sports Festival have already commenced but due to Covid 19 pandemic crisis final stage of the sports festival have been postponed to next March. Earlier it was planned to be held at Anuradhapura from 27th February to 1st March 2020.
The NYSC president also said athletics events will be conducted at either Sugathadasa Stadium or Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium. The athletes come from rural areas and we have to give them necessary facilities to run on artificial tracks like in Colombo as this festival is only second to National sports Festival conducted by the Sports Ministry. This is a good experience for the youth athletes from rural areas to reach higher levels.
The Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa has already given instructions to hold this Sports Festival with a new concept and he agreed to increase prize money for the winners and provide facilities for both players and officials. Over 12000 members representing youth societies from all over the
country will take part in this mega event and NYSC has already made arrangements to conduct Volleyball , Football, Kabbadi, Netball and Rugby both men and women to give proper training for the players.
