Test cricketer Kusal Mendis arrested

Sri Lanka Test cricketer Kusal Mendis was arrested by Panadura -North Police , over a tragic fatal accident which was caused by him early morning on Sunday.

According to the police media spokesperson's office , the accident occurred when a cyclist was run over by the car driven at high speed by the famous cricketer in Horetuduwa area in Galle Road , Moratuwa which comes under the Panadura Police Division, The 25-year-old batsman was driving an SUV at Panadura before dawn when the incident happened, police said.

Mendis has been named in the 16-player squad for a two-match home Test series against England in March, but the tour was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic. The victim was identified by police as a 64 year old man , who was a resident of ‘Gorakapola’ area in Panadura-North, The dead body of the victim is now being kept in the mortuary of the Government Hospital in Panadura in order to produce for a postmortem by the Inquirer into Sudden Deaths.

Test Cricketer Kusal Mendis’ was to be produced before the Magistrate Courts in Panadura over the incident, Further inquiries related to the incident, are being conducted under the supervision of the Officer in Charge of the Panadura-North Police Station,

A former spin bowler, Kaushal Lokuarachchi, was given a four-year suspended jail sentence for crashing into a woman pedestrian and killing her in 2003.
