The Major League Inter-Club Cricket Tournament which was scheduled to resume on July 14 has been postponed by the Tournament Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
The tournament came to a standstill after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic way back in March, after having completed over seven weeks of competition.
With the country opening up for normal life and business, the SLC also decided to continue with this tournament granting necessary permission from the relevant authorities while making few amendments to the original format of the tournament. The SLC amended few playing rules and the tournament structure, which included pruning down the four-day format to three days and infusing the demotion and promotion formalities after the completion of the tournament.
However, as per the original tournament regulations, any amendment has to be done with the prior approval of the General Membership by conducting an Emergency General Meeting (EGM).
In order to facilitate the changes, the Tournament Committee has opted to postpone the tournament until they receive the approval from the EGM which is to be held at the end of this month.
