Dinuk Vishal Silva excels for Wattala Antonians

Fourth year player, all rounder 2019 captain of the team Thilakamuni Dinuk Vishal Silva of St. Anthonys College, Wattala is a left hand bat and a right arm pace bowler who opens the attack bats at number four and he is a safe fielder in any position and a dependable batsman. This year Wattala Antonians participated in eleven matches and they fared well through out the season.

Dinuk excelled with the bat this season and scored 889 runs with two centuries and a fifty and his top score was against Mahanama College, Colombo with 141 runs and his other two centuries were versus St. Sebastian’s, Katuneriya and Kingwood College, Kandy and claimed 12 wickets.

In 2018/19 he scored 766 runs with a century against De La salle College and three fifties. In the previous year he collected 426 runs with two fifties and in the earlier year he scored 365 runs with a fifty and through out his career in a span of four yeas he has scored 2446 runs. In the under 19 District Tournament in 2019 was the captain of the Gampaha District Team and he got 3 fifties in three matches. From the under 17 to date his coach is Sarfraz Farook and his Assistant is Harshana Silva.

He commenced his career with soft ball cricket initially and playing with the neighbouring friends and when he was in the Grade 6 his parents admitted him into the School Cricket Academy and he came under Chanaka and Sandamal and in the following year he was selected to the under 13 division one team. In 2017 Anthonians reached up to the pre quarters and Dinuka scored 436 runs with three half centuries and he was the vice captain.

In 2016 playing in the under 15 team he scored 466 runs with a century and three fifties and in his second year he scored 436 runs with a century and three fifties also he played for Gampaha District Team in the Prima Cup and he was the vice captain.

His coach in the under 17 was Sarfraz Farook and in his first year he could not perform well. In his second year he scored 422 runs representing under 14 in 2015 in Nelson Mendis Tournament and in the finals he made the highest score of 72 runs in the final against Colombo Cricket Club and he won the Man of the Match Award.

Presently he is in the cricket squad of Burgher Recreation Club preparing for the Premier Tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket. The Anthonian team is well supported by the Master in Charge of Cricket Rev Fr. Nuwan Chathuranga and the Principal Rev. Fr. Mal Fernando and old Anthonian Travis and the parents and the relations of Dinuk are always behind him.
