Chapa Weeraratne outstanding cricketer and hockey player

Chapa Weeraratne

Chapa Weeraratne, an old boy of Dharmaraja College, Kandy represented the school in Cricket and Hockey from 1981 to 1984. He was a dashing right hand top order batsman who scored 150 against St.Sylvesters’ College and it is the highest score in his school cricket career .

In Hockey he led the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey team to victory at the Junior National Hockey tournament in 1985 and his team mates were E.K.R. Wijewardena Vice Captain of the team from Dharmaraja College, G..Wadood and M.Anaz both from Trinity College, and M.R. Muniyandi of St.Sylvesters’ College to name a few.

In Hockey he played for the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Team and became Runners-up at the Senior Nationals and lost in the finals to Mercantile Hockey XI.

After School he entered the Colombo University in 1985 and continued playing Cricket and Hockey at the University.

He captained the Cricket & hockey teams at the University and his highest score at cricket was 120 runs against BRC at the Donovan Andree Trophy tournament match.

Chapa Weeraratne passed out of the University obtaining 2nd Class upper division pass in B.com but due to his father’s untimely death he had to take over the business and at present he is a leading businessman in the Hill Capital.

He is a good employer and treating his employees very well by paying them good salaries and helping their families in sickness and other important matters as well as helping them to construct houses.

He is helping his Alma mater whenever it is needed and donating sports materials for the sportsmen of the School.

He told this correspondent that he is happy at the way the Government has taken proper steps to curtail the spreading of Covid – 19 epidemic throughout the country.
