SLTA to host ‘pilot tennis’ trials from today

After a two-month hiatus due to COVID-19 with the players’ calls echoing around empty grounds, a restart was marked by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) for the first time in history, is hosting a pilot tournament today and tommorrow.

The tournament’s target is to bring back ‘playing active tennis’ back to the community, an official from SLTA said.

Moreover, the SLTA has not been given the go-ahead from the Sports Ministry, but is merely taking a head start in the process to educate their coaches, players, parents, administration, and officials; with a feel of the ‘new normal’, while being mindful of the situation concerning the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tournament will begin at 8.30 a.m. today, at the SLTA courts.

The SLTA plans to return with 25 personnel at the venue resuming play, the capacity to limit crowd. Furthermore, they have also prepared a strict list of health guidelines referring to international and local health and safety regulations, so that all participating parties will have a clear understanding of their responsibilities at the premises.
