Chihan Kalindu excels for St Servatius

Second year coloursman, left hand bat and wicket keeper Hetti Arachchige Chihan Kalindu of St. Servatius College, Matara represented Sri Lanka under 19 Team against Bangladesh in Bangladesh last September and he played in a Test and a One Dayer. In 2018 when Australian under 19 team toured Sri Lanka he played for the Sri Lanka Under 19 Team at SSC grounds, Colombo.

His first school was Moneragala Royal National School and he commenced cricket at the age of six and his school played a Kids Big Match against Mahanama College, Moneragala and it was a hard ball game and his first cricket coach at Moneragala Royal was K. M. Nilantha Prasad. Prior to selecting the team they had Inter Class Soft Ball Cricket Tournament and he performed well and he was selected for the Kids Big Match and won the Best Batsman’s Award.

Chihan Kalindu

He was a unanimous choice for the under 13 team and his coach was Sarath Bandara and he captained the under 13 and 15 teams. The under 15 team was coached by Rajaratna. His second year in the under 13 in 2013/14 he scored 255 runs and in the under 15 first year he passed the 300 run mark and in his second year he got 590 runs with two centuries and the top score being 146 runs against St. Thomas College, Bandarawela and he collected three fifties too. He played for the under 15 Prima Cup in the District Team for two years and in his second year he captained the team. Representing Uva Province he captained the Inter Provincial Tournament team.

When he was under 17 his talents were noticed by Ruchira Palliyaguru and he encouraged him to join St. Servatius College. There A. M. Priyantha, T. D. Munasinghe and presently Hiran Gunawardene are his coaches. In his first year in the under 17 in 2017 Servatius won the all island under 17 championship and he scored 350 runs and in the following year he passed the 300 run mark. Playing in the under 19 team in 2017 he scored 550 runs with three fifties and the top score being 95 against Rahula, Matara and had 26 victims. He scored 112 runs in the Big Match against their arch rivals Matara Thomians.

In the last season he scored 850 runs with 105 runs against Maris Stella and five fifties and claimed 32 victims behind the stumps.

In 2018 he played for under 19 Provincial Team for Uva Province and in 2019 represented the Galle Team in the Super Provincial Cricket Tournament and scored 76 against Kandy and 42 against Colombo. He got an opportunity to lead his Alma Mater in four outings.

He represented the Burgher Recreation Club in the under 23 tournament organized by Sri Lanka Cricket and made a tour to India with the Colombo Cricket Club in 2015.

He was selected to the Sri Lanka under 19 team due to his performances at the Inter- Provincial Tournament.
