Sports in Kandy comes to a standstill

Fear over the spread of corona virus has already disrupted all sports in Kandy at school and club level with all the events cancelled or postponed until further notice.

The schools cricket big matches and the one-day games, which are the most looked forward sporting event of the year scheduled for April has been postponed.

All schools rugby matches too have been suspended due to the outbreak.

There is also disappointment for club hockey as the inter-club tournament sevens and knockout tournaments which were scheduled to take place was also called off.   There were also schools basketball, badminton, netball, table tennis, chess and carrom tournaments that have been pushed back provisionally. The Mayor of Kandy Kesara Senanayake has thanked all sports bodies of Kandy for the good decision they have taken in facing this unprecedented challenge.

“Everyone’s health is all that matters right now. Protect each other by following the guidelines we’ll come through this together,” he said.
