Wickramasinghe (70 n.o.) guides Lanka to win over England

A splendid knock of 70 not out 83 balls (6 fours, 1 six) from Ahan Wickramasinghe saw Sri Lanka pull off a 19-run win over England to record their second consecutive win in the ongoing Tri-Nation Under 19 cricket tournament played at North Sound on Wednesday.

In a rain-restricted match reduced to 45 overs England winning the toss and choosing to bat first reached 149-4 with useful contributions coming from the bats of Dan Mousley (38), Lewis Goldsworthy (34 n.o.) and Joey Evison (43 n.o.).

Goldsworthy and Evison figured in an unbroken fifth wicket stand of 66 after England had lost their first four wickets for 83.

Sri Lanka stuttered in their run chase towards a revised target of 125 off 37 overs losing three wickets for 23, before Kamil Mishara (33) and Wickramasinghe pulled them out with a 60-run stand. Following Mishara’s dismissal at 83, Wickramasinghe found another useful partner in skipper Nipun Dananjaya (12 n.o.) and the pair took the team to victory with an unbroken partnership of 60.

Scores:

England U19: 149-4 (45) (Dan Mousley 38, Lewis Goldsworthy 34 n.o., Joey Evison 43 n.o., Kavindu Nadeeshan 2/30)

Sri Lanka U19: 143-4 (37) (Kamil Mishara 33, Ahan Wickramasinghe 70 n.o., George Balderson 2/20)
