Australia’s Mitch Parkinson, the winner of the international event celebrating victory

While most of the island was drenched in rain, Lakshitha Madushan baggs top spot amongst local competitors at the Sri Lanka Pro World Surf League Qualifying Series 3000, held at sunny Arugam Bay, last weekend.

Lakshitha Madushan, hailing from Weligama, Matara, surfed to the top spot with 6.00 points, fending off stiff competition from Anura Hennanthike Sril Pranith with 5.77 points and Praneeth Sandaruwan with 3.70 points.

In the international competition circuit, Australia’s Mitch Parkinson put on an outstanding performance to win the 2019 So Sri Lanka Pro World Surf League Qualifying Series 3000 event in clean four-to-five foot surf at picturisque Arugam Bay. In the biggest win of his career, Parkinson dominated every heat he surfed with an amazing display of aerial surfing. Oney Anwer, a surfer from Indonesia chasing a two-wave combination became runers up at the event. Sri Lanka’s premier connectivity provider, Dialog Axiata was the telecommunication partner for the Pro World Surf League Qualifying Series 3000.
