Ashan Best Driver for third time, Jacques Best Rider

Ashan Silva clinched the Best Driver award for the third time while Jacques Gunawardena won the Best Rider award in the 14th Gunner Supercross 2019, the third event of the CEAT-SLADA Championship, organized by the Artillery Regiment of Sri Lanka Army in collaboration with Sri Lanka Autosports Drives Association (SLADA) recently.

The meet was held at the Gunner racing track equipped with modern facilities in Thankaduwa, Minneriya and included eight (8) driving and 2 riding events.

Ashan Silva bagged his third Gunner victory winning the both races of SL/GT 3500cc event. Veteran driver Aravinda Premadasa won the second place in the first race. Ishraq Wahab, Ushan Perea and Kushan Pieris won the third to fifth places respectively. The second race was arranged according to the results of the first race. Ishraq Wahab defeated Aravinda in the second round of the eight-round race and secured the second place without any challenge. Aravinda, Ushan and Duminda won the third to fifth places respectively. Kushan was encountered a technical trouble in his car and placed fifth.

The second fastest event of the meet SL/H 1600cc was won by Randika Nirosh. Sabry Salam won the second place. Veteran driver Upulwan Serasinghe's son Devin Serasinghe secured the third place.

Mallika Kuruwitaarachchi won the SL-H Subaru Legacy, 220000 (one make) event and Probodhi Bandara won the second place. Heshan Peiris secured the third place.

Upulwan Serasinghe won the both SL/N 1500 cc ford Leaser/Mazda and Sl/N 1300 cc Standard Ford Laser/Mazda events.

Nirosh Jeewantha won the SL/E 1000 cc Nissan March event while Kesara Godage won the second place of the same event and first place of the SL/E 1300 cc ford Laser/Mazda event. Kesara Godage showed his skills in both driving and riding events.

Ashen Silva and Upulwan Serasinghe won two motor car events each.

Eventhough Jacques Gunawardena won the Best Rider award Ishan Dessanayake also showed his riding prowess well. Ishan fell on the track and if not he might have won the Best Rider award.

Ishan Dasanayake won the first race of the MX-250 cc event without any challenge. Jacques won the fourth place. Evon Biyagee secured the second place. Shanuka Sandarauwan and Rumisha Buultjens, won the third and the fifth place respectively. In the second race, Shanuka Sandaruwan, Rumisha Buultjens, Evon Biyagee and DMD Kalhara claimed the second to fifth places respectively. Finally, according to the bonus points Jacques won the Best Rider award.

The most significant event of the whole riding events was the M-STD/MOD 250cc event, consists of two races. Lahiru, Evon and Shanuka competed each other tensely. Shanuka won the both races Lahiru and Evon competed well to secure second and the third places respectively.

Deshan Solanki won the first race of MX Super Motard open event and Imal Manchanayake won the second race. Imal was the second of the fist race and Dehsan was the second of the second race.

Despite Ishan's accident the 14th Gunner Supercross finished successfully. The first-aid team on the track was quick to attend to injured Ishan.

Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva was the chief guest at the award ceremony.

Singer Sri Lanka was the main sponsor for the 11th time while Access Engineering PLC, ICAN Advertising Holding (Pvt) Ltd, Eat Kelani Tyre International and Brows Ltd were the co-sponsors.
