Sailor Chamika bags overall winner crown for 2nd time

Sri Lanka’s longest cross country cycle race organized by the Sri Lanka Telecom concluded on th of September 28 in Dambulla. Chamika Sandun Kumara of Sri Lanka Navy won the overall championship of the 5-day race securing the first prize of Rs. 1 Million. He is the only

person to win first place twice in SLT Speedup history. Viran Ramesh of Sri Lanka Port Authority and Nihal Silva of Sri Lanka Navy were the overall 1st Runner-up and 2nd Runner-up respectively winning the prices of Rs 500,000 and 300,000.

The women’s race overall winners: B.A.S.Dilhani of Sri Lanka Army, Dinesha Dilrukshi of Sri Lanka Air Force and U.N.Kumarasinghe of Sri Lanka Army secured top three overall positions securing cash prices of Rs. 250,000, Rs. 200,000, Rs. 125,000 respectively.

The junior race winners: T.V.K.H. Dilmina of Staternil Cycling CLub, K.D.Keshan Madhuranga of Silver Star Cycling Club and A.Dinusha Saranga of Kelani Cycling Cub secured top three positions securing cash prices of Rs. 100,000.00, Rs. 70,000.00, Rs. 50,000.00 respectively.

The award ceremony was held in the presence of the Group Chairman of SLT, P G Kumarasinghe Sirisena, Chief Executive Officer of SLT Kiththi Perera, Chief Operating Officer of SLT Priyantha Fernandez, Chief Marketing Officer of SLT Prabhath Dahanayake and Representatives of CFSL.

The men’s race started on September 25 from Galle Face Green Colombo and met the finish line on September 28 in Dambulla completing 813km. The women’s race held on September 27-28 a two-day race travelled from Colombo to Dambulla covering a distance of 143km. The first-ever competitive cycling event for juniors, started from Dambulla and travel through Kakirawa, Habarana and then back to Dambulla covering a distance of 75km held on September 28.

Sri Lanka Navy won the Men’s Overall Best team award. Viran Ramesh of Sri Lanka Port Authority was crowned the King of the mountain, Chamika Sandun Kumara of Sri Lanka Navy won the Best Sprinter award, Prabash Madushanka of Sri Lanka Navy won the Best Young Rider award and received Rs: 100,000 each.

Sri Lanka Army won the women’s Overall Best team award. B.A.S.Dilhani of Sri Lanka Army won the Best Sprinter award. U.N.Kumarasinghe of Sri Lanka Army won the Best Young Rider and V.A.A.Sandamini of Sri Lanka Army won the King of Mountains award with Rs.20,000 cash prize each.
