FIFA cancels SL-Macau soccer qualifier

FIFA has officially cancelled the FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup qualification match between Sri Lanka and Macau which is to be played today in Colombo.

With the official announcement by the Macau FA to FIFA of their decision not to travel to Sri Lanka, FIFA has now officially cancelled the match.

Earlier, Macau FA has requested FFSL to consider playing the match in a neutral country citing security concerns after Easter Sunday attacks. However, Sri Lanka Football Authorities stand firm to confirm that Sri Lanka is safe and as normal as before and special security plans were put in place to play this game.

Sri Lanka Football wanted to use this occasion to show the world that Sri Lanka is ready to host any international events and to stand together with all communities as one to show solidarity.

FIFA will announce the progress of Sri Lankan national team on the competition in few weeks.

FFSL will make official announcement once the decision of the match is announced by FIFA.
