Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya girls under 20 hockey team

The Hockey Team of Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya, Nawala ascended through a cascade of hard earned victories to clinch the Under 20 overall Championship at the All Island Inter school Hockey Tournament.

This year’s win marks the Fourth Victory of the School Team winning a Gold Medal at National Level Hockey being introduced less than a decade ago, this achievement turns out to be indeed a both praiseworthy and prestigious one. The Runners-up and Second Runners-up of the 2018 Tournament were respectively the Teams of Wennapuwa Holy Family Girls’ School and Seethadevi Girls’ School, Kandy. Sandunika Chathurangi from Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya was adjudged the “Most Talented Player” of the Tournament. The Tournament was opened to students attending schools across all nine Provinces of Sri Lanka where sixteen of the most talented Hockey Teams played in a series of intensly competitive elimination of matches. Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya Girls’ Hockey Team defeated the Team of Swarnamali Girls’ College, Kandy by four goals to three during the Quarter-Final Round and moved on to beat the team from Seethadevi Girls’ College by 2 goals to 1 at the Semi-Final round. The Final Match brought the Team Head-to-Head with the players from Wennapuwa Holy Family Girls’ School, from which the Janadhipathi Balike Vidyalaya Team emerged victories winning the Gold Medal with a score of two goals to none, crowning themselves as the Overall Championships of this year’s island-wide tournament.

The winning Team was let by Chamodi Sandeepani and was coached by A. N. Perera.
