St. Anthony’s College has turned to a Kingswoodian ruggerite Ronny Ibrahim to lead the coaching duties of the senior side. With nearly 18 years of experience in coaching, Ronny is all out to bring rugby leadership to the top as the Eagles look to continue their growth.
Ronny, a product of Kingswood College is one of the most experienced and understanding coaches the country has today. He played for five years and led Kingswood College in 1986.
He was coached at school by George Thambiraja, Deepal de Zoysa, Sam Samarasekara and Z.M. Zarook. He led the school side in 1986. Soon after school he played for Kandy SC, from NIttawela he crossed over to Maitland Place and played for CH & FC and later for Police SC.
He started his coaching in 2002 at Kingswood and ended it in 2006. In his very first year in 2002 as under 17 coach he helped them to win the all island 10 a side championship, then in 2003 took over the under 19 side and made them Golden Key 7s champions, Division 1B unbeaten league champions, ‘A’ division President trophy k/o champions, Kandy SC-Singer Sri Lankan Airlines 7s runner- up and all-island schools 7s runner-up.
Then in 2004 U19 Golden Key 7s champions, Division 1A league champions, President trophy k/o champions and U19 Kandy SC Singer Sri Lankan Airlines 7s champions 2005, U18 all island 10s runner up, U20 Central Province 7s champions, all island school 7s champions, Division 1A league champions and President’s trophy k/o champions. Then in 2006 U 20 Division 1A league runner-up and President Trophy runner-up.
He also coached Navy SC, Air Force, and Havelock SC and has now taken up to coach CH & FC. Ronnie coached S. Thomas’ and was consultant to Science College.
He is a person who has produced over 40 national players. Ronny hails from a sporting family, he is the third of six brothers all Kingswoodians.
All six played for their alma mater and went on to represent Kandy SC. Some of them even had the privilege of turning out for the national side. His brothers Nilfer another top coach, he handled many schools and presently involved with CR & FC. Then his other brothers Ronny and Rinnie, a top players both are no more.
