DUBAI, Friday – The injury to all-rounder Hardik Pandya proved to be a blessing in disguise for India who drafted in Ravindra Jadeja in his place and the left-arm spinner played havoc with the Bangladesh batting to condemn them to a moderate total of 173 off 49.1 overs in the Asia Cup Super Four match played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium here on Friday.
Put into bat on a slowish pitch the Bangladesh batters failed to come to terms with it after opening bowlers Bhuvneswar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah had sent back both openers for just 16 runs by the sixth over.
The introduction of Jadeja in the tenth over proved futile to Bangladesh as he got rid of their most experienced player Shakib Al Hasan for 17 after the batsman had hit him for two consecutive fours.
Jadeja with his nippy left-arm deliveries was quite a tricky customer to handle. He went onto pick up two more crucial wickets in his eight-over first spell sending back Mohammad Mithun for 9 and most importantly Mishfiqur Rahim for 21 when he reverse swept straight into short third man’s hands.
With the bulk of the batting gone India tightened their grip on the game and Bangladesh were drained of runs as the other two spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav came into play. They both bowled a tidy line and length depriving the Bangladesh batsmen from freeing their arms.
With Bangladesh on the back foot Jadeja was brought back for his final spell and he only poured more misery on them by having Mosaddek Hossain caught behind by Dhoni for 12 to end with figures of four for 29.
Kumar returning for his second spell removed the dangerous Mahmudullah for 25 trapping him lbw as Bangladesh slumped to 101-7.
However the Bangladesh batting was not finished as yet. Mehidy Hasan and skipper Mashrafe Mortaza indulged in a late revival sharing an eighth wicket stand of 66 off 79 balls that took Bangladesh to their final total, although it was quite a distance short to challenge the Indian batting.
Mortaza was dismissed for 26 by Kumar after hitting him for two consecutive sixes and Mehidy was dismissed five balls later by Bumrah for a plucky 42 scored off 50 balls with two sixes and as many fours.

India were 120 for two wickets in 26 overs with skipper Rohit Sharma unbeaten on 61 and M.S. Dhoni 5 not out.
