K. Ravindran, Community Centre Keeper of Kandy Municipality is a veteran soccer referee who officiated the final soccer match between Golden Stars,Deiyannewela and Highline SC, Dangolla conducted by the Kandy District Football League last week. With this particular match he has refereed over 500 matches since 1995 when he started his career as a soccer referee.

Soccer in Sri Lanka is called poor man’s game and a soccer referee is not well recognized.

Ravindran has officiated soccer matches in Kandy, Gampola, Nawalapitiya, Mawanella, egalle, Matale, Colombo, Ruwanwella, Ratnapura, Badulla, Hatton, Nuwara eliya and Vavuniya. An old boy of Sri Sumangala, earlier St.Paul’s - Kandy he played soccer at school level from 1975 to 1980 as centre half and after leaving school he started officiating as a referee.

He revealed that he loves officiating soccer matches despite any recognition and he will continue till he is fit enough to do so.
