Thilakarathne takes early lead on Day 2

Sri Lanka’s International Master (IM) Harshana Thilakarathne took a clear lead in the Under-18 Boys’ event after the second day of the Western Asian Online Youth Chess Championship.

The 18-year-old former national champion has obtained 5.5 points out of six games to take the lead with an unbeaten record.

Meanwhile, two promising players, Dahamdi Sanudula and Oshini Gunawardena, both collected five points each out of six games. After the second day of the event, four Indian players and three Iranian players are on top after six games each.

The Western Asian Online Youth Chess Championship is conducted by the Asian Chess Federation and organised by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka.

The winners of each age group will be selected to play in the FIDE World Youth and Cadet Chess Grand Prix 2021 to be conducted by the International Chess Federation.
