Boxer Tharindu Roshan hopes to take part in Olympics

Twenty Nine year old, Tharindu Roshan Madushanka ,an old boy of Kingswood College,Kandy is a talented boxer who started his Boxing career at the age of twelve years under the guidance of Rukman Wekadapola, veteran coach attached to the school who is a Crown III International Referee and Judge . Tharindu had his first professional boxing fight at the Middle East Crown World Championship held from 8th to 14th September this year at Laterle,Dubai – UAE but he lost the fight in a close contest by 38 to 39 points and he says that he is not satisfied with the decision and requesting for a re-match and he was defeated by a Mexicon Boxer Canelo in a four round bout. Tharindu secured the third place at the Boxing Meet held at the Police Grounds, Kandy , open air boxing ring and he was able to show his talent in the game by becoming the Rank number one Boxer in Three weight classes in 69Kg. 75Kg and 81Kg. weight classes from 2013 to 2016.

He was Adjudged the ‘Best Boxer’ at the National Sports Festival in 2013 and in the same year he won a Silver Medal at an International Boxing Meet held in Philippines in his weight class while the Gold Medal was won by the Philippine Boxer and the Bronze by the Vietnamese boxer. Tharindu participated at the World Championship held in Almaty, Kazakhstan without success and in his early years of boxing, he was Runners-up at the TB Jayah Memorial Boxing Meet in 2008 and he won his weight class at the Junior ABA Boxing Meet and Stubbs Shield meet in 2010. In the same year he won the 69Kg. weight class at the ABA Intermediate meet and won the 75Kg. weight class at the National Sports Festival organized by the Central Province Education Department.

In the year 2012 he won the 75Kg. weight Class at the Clifford Cup Boxing tournament and the Layton Cup Boxing tournament in the same year and after the Clifford Cup Boxing meet he was adjudged the ‘Best Boxer’ of the Meet.

Tharindu will continue practicing Boxing with the intention of representing the country at the Olympic Games in future to achieve this feat he is training for two hours in the morning and three and a half hours in the evening. But he did not neglect his studies after GCE(AL) he became a Honours Graduate in Business management (BBA Hons.) in the SLIIT and at present he is attached to Gayahad Construction Company as an Asst. Manager in the Administration Section. His main intention is to continue his boxing career to be a World renowned boxer in the future.
