Defenders, Renown clash ends in a stalemate

Renown SC Skipper Dilip Suraj kicks the ball as Defenders SC goal-keeper Nuwan Gimhana makes an effort to save

Defenders SC and Renown SC figured in a nil-all draw in the third game of the inaugural Super League Football Tournament at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday.

It was a dismal performance from both teams as they failed to live up to expectations. Except for a few teasing moves, which were to no avail, the rest of the game remained as a dull affair.

As the two leading contenders for the title, much was expected from these two teams but both failed to make an impact.

They rarely tested either side goal-keepers despite both teams having over three corner kicks and yet again they failed to utilise them as the kicks went off target. As a result of the draw, both teams will earn a point each and a much improved performance is expected in their upcoming games.

Meanwhile, Ratnam SC will face Up-country Lions SC in another match today at 7.30 p.m.
