All-round Wellalage steers Joes to easy win

Skipper Dunith Wellalage produced a superb all-round performance as St Joseph’s College beat Richmond College by 128 runs in their Under-19 Division One Tier ‘A’ quarter-final cricket fixture played at Wijerama Mawatha yesterday.

St. Joseph’s scored 228 for nine in their 50 overs and in reply, Richmond were bowled out for 100 in 29.3 overs.

St. Joseph’s opener Sheran Fonseka made a fine 54 while Wellalage struck 61 in 71 balls with six fours and a six and also added 84 for the fourth wicket.

Richmond in their run chase lost wickets at regular intervals with off-spinner Shenuka de Silva causing the damage with three for 27 while Wellalalge, Deshan Seneviratne and Shevon Daniel took two wickets each.
