Kithnula clinches U-16 tennis title

Wenuka Kithnula clinched the Boys’ Under-16 Singles title at the SSC Open Tennis Tournament, which continued at the SSC Courts in Maitland Place yesterday.

Kithnula lived upto expectations as the favourite and went on to beat Zahid Zihar in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 in the final encounter.

 

The results:

(Boys’ Under-16 final): Wenuka Kithnula beat Zahid Zihar 7-5, 6-4.

(Girls’ Under-14 quarter-finals): Oneli De Silva beat Inuki Jayaweera 1-6, 6-2, 13-11. Dulkini Ranasinghe beat Akeesha Silva 3-6, 6-4, 10-8. Arushi Thomas beat Melesha Randini 7-5, 6-4. Jayami Thambugallage beat Brinda Fernando 6-3, 6-1.

(Girls’ Under-16 semi-finals): Dinara de Silva beat Anithra Dharmarathne 6-2, 6-4. Saajida Razick beat Denethya Dharmarathne 6-2, 6-3.
