
Fifteen year old Karate Gold Medalist and Athlete Vageesha Dewmini de Silva brought honour and fame to her school Holy Family Convent, Wennappuwa.

Vageesha was admitted to the Primary School of one of the prestigious Ladies Schools in the North Western Province Holy Family Convent Wennappuwa when Rev. Sister Beeta Thisserra was at the helm of the school and the present Principal is Rev. Sister Priyanganie and her first class teacher was Mrs. Christeen Siyambalapitiya.
In 2014 she participated in the Inter House Sports Meet in 50, 75 and 100 metre events. She won the Third Place and in the following year too she repeated the same performances.
Noticing her keenness and talents in sports, her parents admitted her to a Private Karate Academy under former Sri Lanka Army Karateka and Coach Susantha Sugath Kumara in 2016.
Her first Karate Meet was in 2017 Sri Lanka Karate Championship and she won a Gold Medal in Kumite at her first attempt in the Under 11 Age Group and in the following year competing in the Under 12 Age Category in 2017 in the Puttalam District Karate Meet she won another Gold Medal for Kumite and participating in the 3rd Open International Semi Contact Karate Championship in the under 12 age group she won a Bronze Medal. Again in 2017 in the Karate – Do – Federation Championship she won a Silver in Kumite and a Bronze in Kata and in the same year at the North Western Provincial Meet she won a Gold Medal for Kumite.
In 2018 in the under 12 age group at Puttalam District Meet she obtained Bronzes in Kumite and Kata respectively. Same year in the North Western Provincial Meet Vageesha won another Bronze for Kumite and in the 2018 National Championship Karate-Do-Federation Meet she got third place and won a Bronze. In 2019 at the Puttalam District Meet she won a Silver for Kata and Bronze for Kumite.
At the Sri Lanka North Western Provincial Meet she was second in Kata and third in Kumite. Last year participating in the ISQU International Online Karate Tournament she won a Silver in Kumite and finally she took part in the International Karate Championship. Her Karate in Charge is Mrs. Priyangani and the Coach is Sugath Susantha Kumara. During a short span of four years Vageesha has won a total of 14 Medals which includes Three Golds, Four Silvers and Seven Bronzes which is a great boon for her Karate career.
