Sri Lanka Youth Cap Avishka Lakshan pride of Kalutara Vidyalaya

Avishka Lakshan

Sri Lanka youth cap Avishka Lakshan right hand batsman and right arm off-spinner has done exceptionally well for Kalutara Vidyalaya in schools cricket.

Avishka Lakshan gave a fine batting performance in the 2019/20 season of Under 19 Division Two inter schools cricket tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association. Avishka Lakshan scored 577 runs with four half centuries and claimed 17 wickets. Avishka Lakshan was born on 21st July 2001 at Kalutara. He joined Kalutara Vidyalaya in 2006. He passed the O/L exam in 2017 and sat the A/L exam in the Arts stream in 2020.

Avishka started his cricket career at the academy of Kalutara Vidyalaya under coaches Sunil Saluwadana and Rumesh Rangana Silva in 2011. He represented the school under 13 ‘B’ team under the guidance of Sarathchandra De Silva, Principal of the college and coach Rumesh Rangana Silva in 2012. He was promoted to the under 13 ‘A’ team in 2013 and 2014. He scored 320 runs with two fifties and claimed 24 wickets in the under 13 division One tournament in 2013. He scored 380 runs with three fifties and claimed 36 wickets in the under 13 division one tournament in 2014. He was selected for the Kalutara district under 13 squad in 2014.

He scored 410 runs with four half centuries and claimed 45 wickets in the under 15 division One tournament in 2015.

He represented Kalutara District Zone One under 15 team and Western Province South Outer team in the Prima Trophy under 15 inter district and inter provincial tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket in 2015. He was a member of Sri Lanka under 16 development squad against visiting England under 15 team. He scored 370 runs with four fifties and claimed 37 wickets as the skipper in 2016.

He represented Kalutara District Zone One under 15 team and champion Western Province South Outer team in the Prima Trophy under 15 inter district tournament and inter provincial tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket in 2016.

He was the second leading bowler in the tournament and claimed 13 wickets under district coach Ajith Weerasinghe and Niroshan Bandarathilaka, provincial coach.

He scored 470 runs with five half centuries and claimed 31 wickets under coach Sunil Saluwadana in 2017. He led the school under 17 team in 2018.

He scored 510 runs with a century and two fifties and claimed 38 wickets. He scored 111 runs against D.S. Senanayake College Colombo.

He represented the school under 19 teams as a fresher in 2014/15 season under coach Rumesh Milroy. He scored 480 runs with four fifties and claimed 71 wickets. He scored 670 runs with a century and four fifties and claimed 79 wickets in 2016/17 season. He led the college first XI team in 2017/18 season. He scored 795 runs with two tons and four half tons and claimed 68 wickets under the guidance of Indika Pieris Principal and Sunil Saluwadana, Coach in 2017/18 season.

Avishka scored 820 runs with three centuries and three half centuries and claimed 72 wickets in the season of 2018/19. and was selected to the Sri Lanka under 19 squad.

He played three under 19 provincial tournaments in 2017,2018 and 2019 representing Western Province South Outer team. He took 15 wickets and was adjudged best bowler of the tournament in 2018. He represented Sri Lanka under 19 team in four Youth ODIs and a Youth test match. He represented SLC Under 19 XI in the Mercantile tournament in 2019.

He played club cricket for Crusaders CC Kalutara Club in 2017, 2018 and 2019 in the Sara trophy tournament under coaches Sunil Saluwadana and Chinthaka. He joined Baduraliya CC under 23 team in 2020/21.

Kalutara Vidyalaya advanced to the quarter final of Under 19 division 2 two day tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association in the season of 2019/20.
