Sixteen year old Karate ka and Gold Medalist in Kumite Shehan Gimhan de Silva of Madampe Central College Chilaw has excelled in Karate. Shehan was admitted to the Grade One of St. Sebastian’s College Madampe, in 2009 and as there was no sport during that time over there he shifted to Madampe Central College, Chilaw. in 2017
His Prefect of Games was Gamini and Shehan attended Karate Practices under former Sri Lanka Army Karateka cum Coach Susantha Sugath Kumara. In 2018 partipating in the Sri Lanka Karate Do Federation Meet for Puttalam District Shehan was the Runner Up in the under 14/15 age group for Kumite Event and again in the Provincial Meet under same age group he came first in Kumite.
He was selected for the tour of Bangalore, India for the Shimoga Open International Karate Championship 2018 organized by ISKU Karate Club and competing in the under 14 age group he won a Gold Medal for Kumite and a Bronze Medal for Kata Event and in the same year he participated in the Sri Lanka Schools Karate Championship held at Sugathadasa Stadium Colombo and in the under 16 category he won a Silver Medal for Kumite and in the following year in the same tournament he won a Gold Medal for under 16 Kumite Event. In 2019 North Western Ministry of Education organized a Karate Meet and in that he won a Silver Medal for under 16 Kumite Event and in the All Island Games too he carried away a Silver Medal in Kumite.
In the same year he participated in the ISKU Tour of Ahmedabad, India for the International under 16 Karate Cup 2019 and competing in the under 15 to 17 age group he won a Gold Medal in Kumite. In this context the Prefect of Games of the school Chandana Deepal, his Principal and teachers were very supportive of him.
