Ramesh Mendis joins elite company

Promising all-rounder Ramesh Mendis became the 154th Test cricketer to represent the country when he made his debut in the second Test match against England at the Galle Stadium yesterday.

The 25-year-old right-hand batsman and right-arm off-spinner also joined a select band of players from Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda to have represented the country at the highest level.

Mendis had the privilege of joining some of the elite players in the calibre of Ajit de Silva, Upul Tharanga and current Skipper, Dinesh Chandinal who are all distinguished old boys of Dharmasoka College.

Mendis has figured in 45 First-Class matches and has a top score of 300 not out with an average of 43.46.

In addition, he has captured 83 wickets at an average of 38.26 and a best effort of five for 124. - Agencies
