Tharindu Rukshan does Devapathiraja proud

Third Year Player, left hand middle order batsman, gloveman of the side and under 23 club cricketer Tharindu Rukshan has come up with good performances for his Alma Mater Devapathiraja National School, Ratgama.

His first school was Siri Sumana Vidyalaya, Ratgama and he came under Rashan Madushanka when he was in the grade five and in the same year he played for the Big Match against Sri Sumangala Vidyalaya, Hikkaduwa in a thirty over encounter.

He entered Devapathiraja College in Grade Six and in the same year he attended cricket practices under Ranjan Lasantha de Silva who too is a past cricketer of Devapathiraja. he got selected to the under 13 team and played as the wicket keeper and the opening batsman and in his first year itself he scored 450 runs with three fifties and claimed 25 victims behind the stumps.

In his second year he passed the 450 run mark with two half centuries and had 24 victims behind the stumps and captained the team. As an under 15 player he scored 351 runs with two fifties and claimed 25 wickets behind the stumps and in his second year too he achieved the same feat.

Last year playing in the under 17 he scored 390 runs with two fifties and had 27 victims behind the stumps. As an under 15 player he was selected for the first eleven cricket team and scored 252 runs with 25 victims and won the Best Fielders Award in the Big Match against their arch rivals Madampa Central. In the following year he passed the 450 run mark with 28 victims behind the stumps and in the last season he collected 552 runs with a top score of 65 runs with Mahanama College, Colombo and had 25 victims behind the wickets.

Presently he is in the under 23 Cricket Pool of Galle Cricket Club preparing for the forthcoming cricket tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket. He has another three years under his belt to represent his Alma Mater. Though he opened batting for the under 13, 15 and 17 teams his coach advised him to bat in the middle order in the first eleven team which bore fruit. Tharindu is well supported by his uncle Dinesh Tharanga who is also a former Devapathiraja College, Cricketer.
