Kandy Y.M.C.A. has produced many National and International level Weight lifters for the last 50 years or more and in the recent past YMCA has produced Power lifters as well.
Following are the present Champion Weight lifters and Power lifters.
M.D.M. Senaka – National Power lifting Champion in his weight Class 105 Kg.from 2015 to 2018 placed 6th among over 20 contestants at the Asian Power lifting Championship held in Indonesia in the year 2017.
Mrs. M.M.D.Harischandra – National womens Weight lifting Champion in her Weight Class 87 Kg. from 2004 to 2018 placed 1st at the South Asian Weight lifting Championship held in Nepal in the year 2012.
S.K.S.Pradeep – National Power lifting Champion in his weight class 59 Kg. from 2016 to 2018, Placed 2nd at the Asian Power lifting Championship in his Weight class held in Mongolia in 2018.
In addition he was placed first at the Asian Pacific Classics Power lifting Championship held in Australia and he became the 7th in the World ranking in the Year 2019. Currently he is the 59 Kg. category Record Holder in Power lifting.
B.J.Wijewickrema – Placed second in his weight class 89 Kg.at the youth Weight lifting Commonwealth Games held in Samoa in the year 2015.
Placed third at the Youth Weight lifting Commonwealth Games held in Malaysia in the year 2012 and Placed second in the same meet also held in Malaysia in the year 2016.
