Hatton National Bank edged out Sampath Bank by 7 goals to 6 on penalty strokes to clinch the Mercantile Hockey ‘A’ division Championship 2020 held at Astro Turf last Saturday.
After four all draw by the full time, the winners did well to curtail their rivals to pull off a nerve tingling win to regain the Championship for second consecutive year. They drub Allaianz Insurance 6 -1 in the semifinals. For winners Damith Bandara(2), Upul Dhanushka and R. Wickremasinghe scooped a goal each. Diluka Weerasuriys(2), Buwaneka Parahitiyawa and Chintaka Dilshan scored a goal each for losers. Meanwhile in the ‘B’ division HSBC defeated Heylays Group 3 goal s to 2 to win their Championship after a 5-4 close win against Seylan Bank in the semifinals. For winners Umesh Wimalasiri, Mark Fernando and Rizvi Sadeff scooped the goals while Bodika Dias scored both the goals for losers.
