Dedicated Sports School for cricket in Hambantota

The first ever Sports School in the country, dedicated to cricket, will be established at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota.

The Minister of Sports, Namal Rajapaksa yesterday, announced that a Sports School dedicated to cricket, is to be setup by next year within close vicinity of the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium.

“All talented cricketers will be able to develop their skills as well as to complete their education successfully at this sports school,” Sports Minister Rajapaksa announced via his twitter message. Sports Minister Rajapaksa also commended the efforts provided by the Ministry of Education for their involvement in this significant project.

“The Education Ministry and the Sports Ministry have to work together to develop school sports,” Sports Minister Rajapaksa also emphasised.

At the beginning of the first academic year in 2021, the first class of this Sports School will consist of 40 cricketers and thereafter,the institution will increase to 80 players comprising, both Boys’ and Girls’.

Sports Minister Rajapaksa has always stressed the importance of establishing Sports Schools in the country with the collaboration of the Ministry of Education.
