Wennappuwa HA win first ever women’s under 21 hockey title

Wennappuwa women’s under 21 hockey champion team.

Wennappwa Hockey Association team emerged champions at the recently concluded Junior National Women’s Hockey tournament played at Reid Avenue astroturf.

This was the first ever women’s under 21 hockey tournament conducted by the National Hockey Federation.

Wennappuwa defeated Kandy District women’s team 2-1 in the final.

Colombo women’s team won the third place match in this tournament when they defeated Sri Lanka Schools ‘Gold’ after tough battle 3-2.

Ranmini Sanjana Fernando was adjudged best player of the tournament while Neeliya Kaushini won the Best Goalkeeper award at the prize giving ceremony. Sports Ministry Secretary Chulananada Perera gave away the awards.

This was the first tournament conducted after the newly elected hockey body took office. It was successful in promoting this sport, especially among the girls.
