Vinayagar Sports Club, Vinayagapura beat Minnoli Sports Club, Vinayagapura by 14 runs in the final to emerge champions and bag the ‘Saravanai Kanthaiya Memorial Cup-2019’ of the 10-over cricket tournament conducted by Vinayagapura Vinayagar Sports Club at the Vinayagapura Maha Vidyalaya playgrounds recently.
Vinayagapura Vinayagar Sports Club vice-president K. Kamalanathan organized the soft ball cricket tournament in memory of late Saravanai Kanthaiya.
Altogether 26 teams from Alayadivembu to Komari areas took part in the tournament. Vinayagar Sports Club, Vinayagapura beat New Minnoli Sports Club, Vinayagapura in the final.
Vinayagar SC won the toss and batting first scored 84 runs in 10 overs for the loss of eight wickets.
In reply, Vinayagapura Minnoli SC were all out for 70 in 9.3 overs.
The winners were awarded the trophy and Rs. 20,000 cash prize by the chief guest and runners-up was also awarded a cash prize and trophy.
Man of the match awards went to K. Kopinath and J.Kavithas of Vinayagar SC. Rajithan of Thambiluvil Ranges SC was adjudged Man of the series. The Best fielder awarded went to M.Jinoj from Vinayagar SC. Thirukkovil Pradeshiya Sabha chairman E.V. Kamalarajan, Thirukkovil Pradeshiya Sabha members K. Kantharooban and K. Kamal, Thirukkovil Traders’ Association president G.Vinayagamoorthy, religious leaders, managers of banks, sponsors, players and many others were present at the event.
