Sheer luck saw Vidyartha College defeat the gutsy St. Anthony’s College by 22 points( 2 goals, 1 try and 1 penalty ) to 19 (2 goals and 1 try) at the Nittawela grounds yesterday, in their second inter-school ‘Plate’ rugby match, after trailing at half time 10-12.
The Antonians played their usual style of run and pass game which had the Vidyartha side guessing time and again in the first half. Their fitness and style helped them play their normally determined game but could not counter the robust tackling and driving displayed by the Vidyartha side in the second half.
It was surprising to see the Antonians giving away a try in the last few minutes of the game, which turned out to be the match winning try.
