Mahanama College, Colombo recorded a 55-run victory on the parabola system against St. Joseph’s College, Colombo in a Singer Trophy Under 17 Division One, Group C, first round inter-school cricket tournament match at St. Joseph’s College grounds on Thursday.
The match was reduced to 43 overs due to bad weather and the Josephians elected to field when they won the toss.
Mahanama’s Pavan Rathnayake scored a brilliant 113 runs including four sixes and nine boundaries to help them get 194.
In reply, the Josephians scored 35 runs for one wicket in 9 overs when the match was stopped due to rain and after resumption were set a 182-run target in 38 overs. However, the Joes could not cope with the Mahanama attack and ended on 127 for 9 wickets. Dinal Anuradha and Shevon Daniel scored 34 runs each while Shenuka de Silva contributed with 27. Chamath Chamupathi, Sadishan Chamodya and Rathnayake bagged two wickets each.
