‘Shuttle Time’ Programme in Eastern Province

Eastern Province ‘Shuttle Time’ programme participants with Sri Lanka Badminton Management Committee President Nishantha Jayasinghe and Asian Regional Development officer Nikil Chandra.

Eastern Province Badminton Association together with Sri Lanka Badminton Association conducted a ‘Shuttle Time’ programme for the Eastern Province physical education teachers, Badminton coaches, sports officers, players and trainers. The two-day programme was held at the South Eastern University at which over 50 participants were present and gained valuable knowledge from the Asian Regional Badminton development officer Nikil Chandra from Bangladesh.

The programme mainly focussed on the basics of coaching and it was very special for the Eastern Province participants who came from Batticaloa, Ampara, Akkaraipattu areas. “They had a fine opportunity and for the first time, this type of programme has been introduced for this area”, said Eastern Province Badminton Association Secretary Aliyar Faizer.

Sri Lanka Badminton Management Committee President Nishantha Jayasinghe who was the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony on Wednesday said the ‘Shuttle Time’ programme was for the beginners and it was introduced by Badminton World Federation and Badminton Asia to promote the game. “We have already conducted programmes at Mannar, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Bandarawela, Kandy and finally the Eastern Province programme at Oluvil South Eastern University.

“We are grateful to Vice Chancellor of the South Eastern University Prof M.MM.Najim for making arrangements to conduct this programme at the University”.
