Thanukshi Ashini Weerasinghe of Moratu Maha Vidyalaya, Moratuwa won a Gold Medal for 100 metres in timing of 13.06 seconds and another Gold Medal for 200 metres at a timing of 28.06 seconds in the under 13 event for girls at the 49th Junior John Tarbet National Athletic Meet held at Anuradhapura recently.
Moratu Vidyalaya which is a mixed school since it’s inception is 85 years old now and this is the first ever instance that in the history of Moratu Vidyalaya a girl winning a gold at an Athletic meet. She is coached by former Vidyalian Athlee Indika Cooray and her teacher in Charge of Sports is Mrs. Ruchini Tharanga and the Principal of the school Hemesiri Atahaudage is extending his support and guidance at all times.
