Former Rahula cricketer dies in Germany

Former all-round cricketer of Matara Rahula College, Athula Mendis passed away in Germany on May 19 at the age of 49. Athula represented Rahula cricket teams from the under 13 to 19 level and played a prominent role in college first XI team for four consecutive years. He was the deputy skipper of Rahula first XI in 1985/86 season and was a very generous personality. After leaving school, Athula joined the Matara Sports Club (MSC) and continued his club cricket career in division III. Athula’s funeral will take place on Wednesday (May 24) in Germany.
