Indika and Chamari lead Sri Lanka team for World C’ship

The Commonwealth silver medalist Indika Dissanayake and Chamari Warnakulasuriya will lead the 20 -member weight lifters team (comprising 10 Men and 10 Women) which , will take wings to Uzbekistan for the Weightlifting World Championship, to be held from December 5 to 17.

Dissanayake and Warnakulasuriya both from Sri Lanka Navy already having previous International experience while Commonwealth Games gold medalist Chintana Geethal Vidhanage the most experienced player of the team and Commonwealth Games 2014 Glasgow silver medalist Sudesh Pieris are also in the ten member men's team. Dissanayake who took Silver from 69 kg at Gold Coast Commonwealth Games now compete at the 73 weight class is expected to perform once again with good preparation.

Dissanayake, Dilanka Isuru Kumara and Thilanka Palagasinghe took part at the last Asian Championship in last April. The member of the women's team Chathurika Priyanthi also had previous Asian Weight Lifting Championship experience .Hansani Gomes and Chamari Warnakulasuriya also had bronze medals at Commonwealth Games are also strong competitors.

The most of the Sri Lankan weight lifters were able to improve their National records during the trails before this meet which gave big boost to them .

The lifters will not only eyeing to increase their world ranking, but most importantly, their prime target will be qualifying for next year’s Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham next year. Hansani Gomes and Chamari Warnakulasuriya also had bronze medals at Commonwealth Games.

The ten member officials including head coach R B Wickramasinghe and five other coaches will accompanied this tour .
