
Nineteen-year-old Avishka Subash Chandrathilaka, a student of St.Sylvesters’ College,Kandy is a Cricketer and a Rugby player. First he joined the Under 13 cricket team of the School under the coaching of Julian Arnolda as an opening bowler and right arm batsman. While involved in Cricket the POG of the School wanted the sportsmen of the School to select the game they prefer to continue and Avishka was interested in Rugby and he started playing Rugby at the seventh grade in the Under 12 team and after sometime Avishka became the Captain of the Rugby team under the coaching of Namal Niyadagala, Aruna Rankothge, Roshan Weeraratne,Lasitha Attanagoda, Sanath, B.B.M. Dharmapala and Suranga Kodituwakkua, all talented rugby coaches of the School. At the Under 13 Division one Milo Inter School Rugby Tournament he played as scrum half and in the same tournament in the Under 14 they became the semi finalists and at the Under 16 too in the Div.One Milo tournament his team became runners-up in 2015. Avishka was the Captain of the School Rugby team in all ages from Under 13 to Under 19.
In 2018 and 2019 at the All Island School games they became second runner-up and at the St.Sylvesters’ Vs. Mahanama College, Colombo Rugby match Avishka scored two tries. They
played in five Rugby matches one against Vidyartha college, Kandy and some of his team mates were Gihan Madhushanka and S.S. Priyashantha. In 2021 while in school at the G.C.E.(A/L) Class Avishka was invited by the Kandy Sports Club to play in the Clifford Cup League and Knock-out tournaments and he had practices under the coaching of Fazil Marija and Buddhika Thalgampola, two talented Rugby coaches of the Kandy Sports Club.
His intention is to improve his skills in Rugby and to get selected to play Rugby at a higher level.
