Buwaneka and Sachin take bronze in Bahrain

Sri Lanka's number one badminton doubles pair Buwaneka Gunathileka and Sachin Dias emerged bronze medal winners at the recently concluded Bahrain International Badminton Series in Bahrain.

Buwaneka and Sachin made good battle to reach semi final to take this medal which was after nearly two years period due to Global pandemic. Both Sachin and Buwaneka were able to defeat Bahrain doubles pair at the first round to take good start and they had tough game to beat Indian pair at the quarter final.

At the semi finals Indonesian doubles pair Putra Erwiansa and Harapan Rindorindo made tough fight with Sri Lankan pair.Finally Indonesian pair won by 2-1 to enter the final and Sachin and Buwaneka had to satisfied with bronze medal .

At the semi final the first set was won by Indonesian pair 21-19 with a close fight while Sachin and Buwaneka were able to win the second set 21-16 to equal the game. However deciding third set won by 21-17 Indonesian pair to reach the final which also won by them to secure gold.

However this was good exposure for Sri Lankan pair. Both of them earlier had chance to play European Badminton tournament series which gave them big boost to develop their skills as well as world ranking.
