The Aussies chase down the target of 173 in 18.5 overs to bag their maiden world title in the shortest format. In response, the Black Caps drew first blood as Trent Boult dismissed Aaron Finch in the third over. However, that did not deter Mitchell Marsh from taking on Adam Milne in his first over, smashing him for two fours and a six. Along with Warner, he took Australia to 43/1 after the first 6 overs. The duo continued in the same vein and went on to stitch another 50-run stand. They handed Australia the command of the chase by taking the side to 82/1 after 10 overs. Warner got to his 50 before being cleaned up by Trent Boult on 53. Soon after, Marsh smashed a 50 off 31 balls, fastest in a T20 WC final, to take Australia to 136/2 in 15 overs.
Earlier Skipper Kane Williamson top-scored for the BlackCaps with his 85-run knock while opener Martin Guptill contributed 28 runs.
Put into bat, New Zealand literally struggled in the first 10 overs with Martin Guptill's painful 28 off 35 balls slowing the proceedings.Williamson made the stage his own own with a grace of a 'ballet dancer' hitting 10 fours and three sixes in his 47-ball knock.
In the last 10 overs, New Zealand scored an astounding 115 runs to make a match of the 'Grand Finale'.Williamson shifting gears with such ease that it was a treat to watch him play. The first 16 deliveries that he faced fetched him only 15 runs as Adam Zampa was back then in the midst of a good spell while Guptill's scratchy form also affected the skipper.
But once, he decided that he needed to get a move-on, he hit all those copybook shots at his own free-will scoring 70 off the next 31 deliveries.
Australian Pacer Josh Hazlewood (3/16) took three out of four wickets while leg-spinner Adam Zampa (1/26) accounted for one batsman.
The Black Caps skipper showed why he is one of the modern-day greats during the back-10 as he strategically took the attack back to the opposition camp. He became the captain with the highest score in a T20 World Cup final surpassing Kumar Sangakkara.
