SL and Ireland to strengthen claim for Super 12

Sri Lanka will look to record their second successive victory in the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup when they take on Ireland in Abu Dhabi today.

Sri Lanka are brimming with confidence after having cruised to a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Namibia in their opening match of the qualifying tournament at the same venue on Monday.

Ireland too had a great start to their World Cup campaign as they trounced the Netherlands by seven wickets on Monday in Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s premier batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa also believes that today’s game against Ireland will be a good contest.

“I would expect it to be a fair match against Ireland because they've been playing well in the past. So, hopefully they'll be a good match,” he said.

“In this group I think the challenge that we have to go through is against Ireland and not to underestimate any other team or any other nation.” “But Ireland would be a good competitor for us and we're looking forward to playing a good match against Ireland,” he added. (ICC)
